Los Compadres Brings Authentic Mexican Cuisine to Huntington Station

Step into Los Compadres, and you’ll immediately notice the warm welcome and vibrant atmosphere. Customers are greeted with a smile and encouraged to order directly at the counter. While the setup is casual, the food packs a punch with its authenticity. Signature items like carne asada tacos, lengua tacos, and moist chicken tacos showcase the restaurant's dedication to quality. The dishes are spiced to perfection, though some diners might prefer a touch more salt for balance.

The Highlights of Dining at Los Compadres

One of the standout elements at Los Compadres is their refried beans, which many customers rave about for their rich, creamy texture and bold flavor. Paired with freshly made tortillas, they are a must-try. The salsa, prepared with fresh vegetables, adds a refreshing zing that complements the robust flavors of their dishes.

However, keep in mind that some options can lean towards being a bit spicy or greasy. Despite this, the chicken dishes shine with their tenderness and seasoning, offering a delightful experience for meat lovers.

Limited Vegetarian Options But Fresh Ingredients Shine

Vegetarians may find fewer options on the menu, but the dishes available are crafted with fresh and vibrant ingredients. From crisp vegetables in their tacos to the zesty salsa, Los Compadres emphasizes freshness and flavor in every bite. For those seeking variety, the restaurant might not cater extensively to plant-based preferences, but the quality of available choices ensures a satisfying meal.

Dining Experience at Los Compadres

The restaurant’s small size creates a cozy environment but can also mean a crowded space during peak hours. Families with young children or large groups may find it less accommodating. The use of plastic plates and modest decor underscores the casual dining atmosphere, but some patrons feel it detracts from the overall experience given the pricing.

Speaking of pricing, dishes at Los Compadres are considered slightly higher compared to similar establishments. While the food’s quality justifies some of the cost, others believe the service and setting could be enhanced to match the pricing.

Fresh Salsa and Tacos Make Los Compadres Worth a Visit

Despite a few critiques, many agree that Los Compadres excels in creating fresh, flavorful dishes. The use of crisp, garden-fresh vegetables in their salsa and tacos ensures every meal feels like a celebration of Mexican cuisine. Even with minor hiccups like occasional order mix-ups, the friendly staff strives to deliver an enjoyable experience.

Food was great, very authentic. Refried beans were one of the best I've had. Most of the items were a bit too spicy for the little one but otherwise the adults loved it. Was a bit greasy feeling sitting inside though, they need better ventilation inside the restaurant.

I came here a lot about 10 years ago, over the span of a few years, enough to work my way through as much of their menu in which I found interest. Everything is made fresh to order in this family-owned business. So what if the plates and utensils are plastic - this is authentic Mexican food from a family who cares about their customers and their product. Stop in to get your favorite Mexican dish - mine are the Chimichangas and the Huevos Rancheros . . .

Located across from walt whitman's birthplace, this is a wonderful family owned eatery with abundant selection from lengua (beef tongue) tacos (~$3 each) to rice pudding ice cream bars. Food was affordable(cheap), filling, and delicious (special shout out to the rice pudding ice cream bar). For those seeking to dine out during the COVID pandemic, there are two tables located outside (no indoor dining allowed) with hand sanitizer supplied by the restaurant. As an alternative, get takeout & eat in the comfort/safety of your own home!
